Raw Water Supply Project – Lihir Gold, Newcrest Mining, Papua New Guinea

Construction and commissioning of 6.8km of 800mm HDPE water pipeline including polyfusion associated pits and valves, regeneration of all disturbed work areas of the pipeline (including reinstatement of bunded areas). This project required liaison between Redline Group, Newcrest and local land holders.

The project required an accelerated mobilization and deployment of resources from Queensland Australia , obviously remote in nature being on an island in Northern PNG, and required a demanding construction timeframe. Redline met all expectations and successfully delivered the project ahead of time.

Challenges faced included danger from overhead power lines (mitigated by the aid of height restrictors fitted to the excavators) and adverse weather conditions and all while maintaining environmental controls. Work was executed using key Redline personnel and the hire of local labour (nationals) and the combination of the two led to a strong relationship and a very successful project.
